THE ENDURING APPEAL OF WARM METALLICS
From soft brushed surfaces to richly patinated finishes, warm metallics continue to bring depth and character to contemporary interiors. Luxury architectural hardware manufacturer Croft explores their lasting appeal.
Brass and bronze offer a broad spectrum of looks, from bright Polished Brass and understated Satin Brass to softer English Bronze and the deeper tones of Aged and Antique Brass. With more than 25 finishes and patinas, Croft gives designers plenty of scope to introduce warmth and individuality.
Warm metallics also create contrast without feeling harsh, complementing dark cabinetry, natural timber and stone, or adding a distinctive detail to a neutral scheme. Their appeal extends beyond trends, too. Croft’ s living finishes are designed to evolve through use, gradually developing character as the protective wax coating wears at points of contact.
“ Warm finishes have a natural ability to complement a wide range of materials,” says Paul Clifford, Managing Director at Croft.“ The finish itself can completely change the character of the hardware.”
Ultimately, brass and bronze bring warmth, texture and individuality that stand the test of time.
OPENING THE DOOR TO BETTER ENERGY PERFORMANCE
As the next phase of the Future Homes and Buildings Standards approaches, TORMAX is encouraging architects, specifiers and building owners to consider how entrance systems contribute to energy performance. Published in March 2026, amendments to England’ s Building Regulations include a revised Approved Document L for non-domestic buildings, due to take effect on 24 March 2027 for relevant nonhigher-risk building work. While energy-efficient automatic doors are not specifically mandated, the changes reinforce a whole-building approach to energy use and carbon emissions.
“ In busy environments such as retail outlets, offices and hotels, entrances can operate continuously”, says Simon Roberts, MD at TORMAX UK.“ Entrance design, door configuration, traffic levels and control systems can all influence energy performance.”
With over 60 years’ experience, TORMAX advises on entrance solutions tailored to individual applications. Its range includes sliding, revolving, swing and folding doors, powered by in-house designed iMotion door drives providing dynamic movement that can be easily controlled to minimise energy consumption.
“ Entrances are the interface between a building and its environment. Considering them early in the design process supports a more integrated approach to building performance.” www. croft. co. uk For further information visit www. tormax. co. uk
