TWO-TONE SANCTUARIES: THE TILE TREND BRINGING COLOUR BACK INTO THE BATHROOM
For years, bathrooms have been dominated by neutral palettes, but homeowners are becoming more confident with colour. Rather than committing to a single shade, twotone tile schemes are creating spaces with personality, depth and timeless appeal. María D Arráez, Director of Tile of Spain UK, shares why the trend is taking off.
“ Bathrooms don’ t have to be neutral to feel timeless. Combining two colours offers flexibility, whether you prefer soft earthy tones or bold contrasts. Pattern is also making a comeback, with checkerboard layouts and stripes adding character to vanity areas and showers without overwhelming the space.
Two tile colours can also help define different zones. A darker shade in a shower or niche creates a striking focal point, while lighter tiles keep the room bright and spacious. Colour blocking part of a wall introduces contrast and can make compact bathrooms feel more thoughtfully designed.
Texture is equally important. Mixing matt and gloss finishes, or pairing smooth ceramics with fluted or terrazzo tiles, creates a layered, balanced and stylish look.”.
