FIREFLY ® BARRIERS PROTECT SOUTHERN HOUSING PROPERTIES
FIREFLY ® fire barriers have been used to upgrade the roof space of a twostorey residential building owned by Southern Housing in Sheerness.
The project involved four flats on Richmond Street, dating from the 1960s. Following a routine risk assessment, the roof void arrangement was found not to fully meet current Building Regulation requirements, prompting Southern Housing to appoint specialist contractor PiLON, a longstanding member of FIREFLY ®’ s installer network.
Over a five-week period, PiLON installed approximately 95m ² of FIREFLY ® Zeus membrane within the roof voids, using high-temperature adhesive, staples and Collaroll to create protected zones. The system provides effective compartmentation between the upper-storey flats.
Manufactured from woven and non-woven glass, the FIREFLY ® range is designed to resist flame and smoke while offering heat protection in concealed spaces. FIREFLY ® Zeus Lite Vertical 90:30 is specifically designed for vertical applications, providing 90 minutes of integrity and 30 minutes of insulation performance.

PYROGUARD AND SCHÜCO DELIVER FIRE-RATED FAÇADE FOR BELFAST GRAND CENTRAL STATION
Pyroguard has partnered with Schüco to deliver a fire-rated façade for the new Belfast Grand Central Station, a £ 340 million transport hub designed to accommodate up to 20 million passenger journeys annually. Architects RPP sought to create a bright, welcoming environment through extensive glazing and open spaces. The façade needed to maximise natural light while meeting stringent requirements for fire safety, thermal efficiency, acoustics and structural performance.
Working closely with Carey Glass and specialist contractor Williaam Cox, Pyroguard supplied more than 400m ² of Pyroguard Protect fire safety glass integrated within Schüco curtain walling systems. Pyroguard Protect T-EI60 / 25-3 was specified to provide 60 minutes of fire resistance while allowing large pane sizes and uninterrupted sightlines.
Installed within the Schüco FW 50 + FR 60 system, the glazing combines fire protection with transparency, impact resistance, acoustic performance and thermal efficiency. The project was recognised at the 2025 Schüco Excellence Awards, where judges praised the façade’ s structural performance, sightlines and successful integration across the building envelope.
