ROYAL ARCADE CREWE MSCP
HONOURING INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE WHILE MEETING SAFETY COMPLIANCE
Crewe in Cheshire is a prominent railway hub in the UK and a town renowned for its proud industrial traditions. Historically, the town has housed major railway engineering facilities. At the factory on Pyms Lane, where Rolls-Royce passenger cars were once produced, exclusive Bentley models now roll off the production line, reaching admirers worldwide.
The city council is engaging in several exciting development projects to infuse new dynamism into the town. This includes the Royal Arcade project, where both a new bus station and a multi-storey car park( MSCP) were completed in 2024. These are essential components of the transport infrastructure, and the car park boasts an unconventional design that embraces the past, present, and future.
A tribute to the town’ s industry Architects Corstorphine & Wright proposed a facade design for one side of the MSCP to pay homage to Crewe’ s industrial heritage, and RMIG Solutions was chosen for the task. With RMIG ImagePerf, it was possible to showcase the industrial legacy that has delivered innovation and engineering excellence to the world for decades.
RMIG Solutions has developed and perfected RMIG ImagePerf to allow photographs, graphics, art, and typography to be reproduced using precision metal perforation. This offers unprecedented creative freedom and endows the building with a character that harmonises with its function and surroundings.
Creative use of materials In the UK, all MSCPs must satisfy strict regulations and meet various standards for fire safety and ventilation. Perforated and expanded metal are excellent choices for this purpose as they ensure adequate ventilation and enhance user safety by allowing visibility through the facade, preventing an enclosed feeling.
Furthermore, the chosen materials must integrate seamlessly with the environment, offer a high level of functionality, and require minimal maintenance. RMIG Solutions possesses the expertise to deliver solutions that adhere to both formal requirements and the visionary designs of architects and designers.
RMIG ImagePerf offers unprecedented creative freedom
The Royal Arcade MSCP in Crewe exemplifies this approach. This is evident in both the facade featuring the illustrations and the other sides of the building, where a blend of perforated and expanded metal provides diversity in the newly developed urban area.
RMIG Solutions also supports the construction process and tight deadlines by delivering numbered, finished cassettes for the facade, ready for installation.
