Hidden Limits: Introducing the Sugatsune SAS-V Concealed Door Restrictor

Combining practical benefits with aesthetic elegance is very much the Sugatsune way. Over the years, we’ ve applied this principle to most aspects of door motion- concealed hinges, soft close dampers, minimalist sliding rails, pocket door systems and more.
All have one overarching objective in common- to introduce a premium level of control in how doors function, whilst giving interior and architectural designers products that respect the look as well as the function.
Continuing the trend is the SAS-V concealed door restrictor. A concealed door restrictor is a type of overhead arm stopper that limits how far a door can open. They are used to prevent doors swinging into objects and causing accidents. And as the name suggests, a concealed restrictor is designed to be hidden from view when the door is closed, or at least have a very minimal visible profile.
With the SAS-V, we’ ve pushed the envelope on both control and appearance- and thrown in healthy doses of covenience, flexibility and durability, too. All SAS-V stops allow you to adjust the limitation angle up to 110 o with a simple slider. Installation is equally simple, with a slim mortised groove required on top of the door, and an arm screwed to the frame and ceiling. The two sections simply slide together, and the non-handed design means it can be installed on left- and right-hand opening doors.
The SAS-V comes in hold and nonhold types. The hold stops keep the
door open at the specified maximum angle, while the no-hold types simply prevent the door opening any further. There are six restrictors of each type, making 12 products in total- three of each for two different door widths( 580mm to 900mm, and 800mm to 1100mm), and in three different finishes- white, black and warm grey. These colour options further help the restrictor’ s slim profile blend seamlessly into its surroundings when closed.
Like all of our architectural components, SAS-V stays are also built to last. Underneath the coloured finishes, all components are precision engineered from stainless steel. The model passed 300k cycles in stress testing, promising years of flawless use in real-world installations. The maximum suitable door weight for all stops in the range is 50kg.
The Perfect Partner
SAS-V restrictors can be installed on their own to control the opening angle of most interior doors. They can also be paired with other Sugatsune products to further extend the functionality- and the control, and the convenience. For example, the SAS-V makes a perfect companion for the LDD-V, our concealed softclose damper for standard interior doors.
Fitted with our award-winning Lapcon adjustable damper, the LDD-V range delivers premium soft, silent close control for interior doors using a mechanism that‘ catches’ a door late in its swing. This avoids the need for a door closer arm to control the motion of a door throughout its swing, leaving room for the SAS-V to manage the opening angle, and perhaps hold the door in its open position. Then you have the reassurance of the LDD-V taking over the back swing and bringing the door to a smooth, controlled close.
Another ideal match for the SAS-V is our game-changing HES concealed hinge series. If you take flawless finishes in your door furniture seriously, a HES hinge is a must-have. With the most comprehensive range of concealed hinge options for both cabinet and interior doors available anywhere on the market, the HES series makes visible hinges a thing of the past. From that base, you can add equally discreet components like the SAS-V and LDD-V to add control to the pristine appearance- that perfect balance of looks and function. The Sugatsune way.
