“ Bringing an idea to life , of how carbon netzero living and working can be achieved

pragmatically , is the primary objective of an exciting scheme currently being developed in France by an English entrepreneur .”
IMS CONSULTING undertaking like this . Her projects utilise existing structures , mixing traditional and modern materials to create spaces that are durable , exciting and practical . “ I regard the pottery project as an opportunity to build a living laboratory for sustainability that everyone can benefit from .” explains Juliette
Five acres of woodland will be responsibly managed to improve habitat diversity whilst also providing amenity space . A bio-market will be established for local producers , and the existing gardens are currently being transformed into a permaculture area that will supply produce for the market as well as for the on-site café .
MIXING TRADITION WITH TECHNOLOGY
Repurposing a site , whose original building dates back over 150 years , will involve integrating low carbon construction and energy generation technologies with traditional methods of manufacturing and agriculture .
” An important aspect of the project will be the education centre that will form part of the main public space . This will enable companies , environmental groups and the local people to learn more about approaching our net zero future in a pragmatic way .” says Graham .
Outside , sustainable technologies will not only form part of the operational aspects of the Eco-Parc , but also their application and use will be demonstrated .
“ The idea is to show why we ’ ve selected certain solutions , how they work and the impact they have . So , by using examples of equipment and processes that are actually operating on the site , we will explain how production , use , repurposing and recycling can be achieved in a circular fashion . It ’ s important to me that the project is approached in a very practical and realistic way .”
MEASURE , MANAGE , MOTIVATE
“ Everything will be assessed for its environmental and social impact . From assessing the carbon footprint of the vegetables used to make the soups in the café , to recording the distance of journeys of visitors . It ’ s about showing what can be done , measuring that and then explaining by way of site tours , videos and learning materials that everyone has a part to play in achieving zero emissions locally , nationally and globally . Whether it ’ s a family on holiday who leave us understanding more about reducing food waste or the finance team of a multi-national who visit to see how we build our carbon balance sheet . Both learn from their time here and will leave with a better understanding .” concludes Graham .
Initial interest in the project has already been encouraging . The regional development council has agreed to back it with funding and several of IMS Consulting ’ s own clients , both in France and the UK , are talking about actively supporting its development and operation . Phase one , which will include accommodation for onsite staff , the permaculture site and café complex is expected to be complete by summer 2023 .
The main public area will include a café and a teaching and learning zone
