The idea of creating a net-zero Eco-Parc began when Graham came across a disused pottery in the Burgundy region of France . The previously thriving business had become a victim of competition from cheap imports and closed in 2019 . He immediately decided that the 8.5acre site ’ s location and mix of existing buildings offered great potential as a “ living laboratory ” for demonstrating how low carbon living and working can be realised in the same place .
La Poterie du Petit Massé , situated in the village of Tamnayen-Bazois and currently being transformed into the Eco-Parc de la Nièvre , is about three hours south of Paris in the Morvan Regional Natural Park , a protected area of woodlands and lakes in Burgundy .
LOCAL KNOWLEDGE FOR GLOBAL CHALLENGES
Ultimately , the site will provide co-working spaces for local artisans and the pottery will be brought back into production . All of the existing buildings will be retained and re-purposed as energy efficient workspaces , with the help of local architect and expert in sustainable construction , Juliette Lavault of Atelier Claire-Voie .
