DAVID PHILLIPS & GET LIVING LAUNCH RELEASE

Get Living , the largest operator in the UK ’ s build-to-rent sector , and David Phillips , the leading furniture provider for property professionals across the UK , announce today the roll-out of the innovative , pioneering and sustainable furnishing model , Release - first launched in the vibrant East Village neighbourhood in London .
Working together since April 2020 , David Phillips and Get Living developed Release as a model to help significantly reduce the amount of used furniture that went to landfill , reduce cash costs and create a tool for much greater resident engagement .
1,866 pieces of furniture have been refurbished and returned for use by Get Living , representing significant cost savings .
7,222 items have been donated to charity , with the remainder going into the Release furniture service , making a real contribution to alleviate social hardship in London and across the UK .
11,617 items of furniture have been saved from landfill using the Release service and partnering with a number of local charities .
The reuse and repurposing of items that would previously have gone into landfill has significantly reduced the carbon impact of Get Living ’ s extensive Refresh programme .
Following its already early success , David Phillips and Get Living will now roll out the Release service across all Get Living ’ s developments at Elephant Central in London , three new core projects in East London and New Maker Yards in Manchester . As other new neighbourhoods are launched , sustainability will remain at the heart of Get Living and David Phillips ’ decision making , of which this service will be a powerful component .
Ian Gibbs , Director of Neighbourhoods for Get Living said , “ Working together with David Phillips to create a programme of reuse , repurpose , recycle , we have saved more than 500 tonnes of furniture from landfill and have donated more than 7,100 items to charity . This service has generated significant cost savings and
just as importantly by reducing overall furniture consumption , demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and social value .”
Nicholas Gill , CEO of David Phillips said , “ We truly believe that Release can significantly save people money , reduce overall furniture consumption – the most powerful environmental action to take - and make a meaningful contribution to reducing furniture poverty in the UK . David Phillips is delighted to be working with Get Living , and looks forward to powering the development of this unique and pioneering service .”
With the introduction of Release into the market , David Phillips and Get Living aim for other build-to-rent operators and property managers to join this unique and industry-changing service , with benefits including :
