When plans were being drawn up for the new £ 1.6 million state-ofthe-art community sports campus at St . Patrick ’ s College , Banbridge , Co . Down , it quickly became evident that given the undulating nature of the site to be developed , it would be necessary to construct a retaining wall .
While long term performance and aesthetics of this retaining wall were important to the designers , what was key was that given the wall ’ s location next to a school , it was crucial that any retaining wall built , would need to be unclimbable .
As a result , the Allan Block Retaining Wall System was chosen as it provided the ideal solution . Not only did its near vertical setback and patented Anti-Climb chamfer deliver an Anti- Climb finish ( designed to prevent falls or injury ), but it would also deliver a cost effective , aesthetically pleasing , durable and maintenance-free retaining wall . its ’ patented interlocking front lip creates a built-in setback and eliminates the need for pins , clips , or mortar . This appealed to the designers as regardless of weather conditions , using this mortarless dry stacking system meant walls could be constructed in a straight-forward easy manner ( an important factor given our often-inclement weather ).
