Design for co-working and social spaces will be under the spotlight when Harry Harris, developer of the Curtain Hotel and Members Club, chairs a conversation between hospitality design leaders, while Social FlexAbility will be tackled from a management point of view in a debate moderated by Robin Sheppard, Chairman of Bespoke Hotels. The Conference will also explore other hot hospitality topics. Day two is set to offer fascinating ‘Above and Below’ sessions with pioneers from Virgin Galactic talking about the absolute imperative of putting a personal approach to service front and centre of their delivery. By contrast, Richard Coutts of Baca Architects and Ben Fitzgerald of Core Marine, the engineers behind Under restaurant off the Norwegian coast, will share what’s involved in creating extraordinary guest experiences on, alongside and beneath our seas. Amar Lalvani, CEO of Standard International, will open the Conference, fresh from the completion of his much-anticipated Standard Hotel in London, and a panel discussion Guilt Free Experiences will bring proceedings to an end. James Dilley of Jestico + Whiles and Sigurdur Thorsteinsson of Design Group Italia will be among the speakers considering what will define the best of eco hotels in the future. The Development Roundtables will round off day one with table hosts including Laura Brinkman of Brookfield, Richard Fewings from Highgate and Elena Sainz De La Pena of CBRE Spain, sharing their insights on how the sector is evolving. Reflecting Sleep & Eat’s unparalleled position as Europe’s leading hospitality design and innovation event, the show will feature nine pop-ups. The Sleep & Eat Sets will include four concept guestrooms, designed by Hat Design, Miaja Design Group, Marie Tibblin & Co and twenty2 degrees, as well as a restaurant by NAME Architecture and a bar created by SpaceInvader. In addition, the VIP Lounge will be designed by Moscow-based MEGRE INTERIORS, The Sleeper Bar by London and New York based Michaelis Boyd and The Hub, a coworking space new to the show, by the London studio of Wilson Associates. EVERY YEAR, SLEEP & EAT HAS A NEW THEME, SELECTED TO AMPLIFY THE ZEITGEIST OF THE AGE AND FOR 2019 THE SUBJECT IS “SOCIAL FLEXABILITY”.
