A SPECIAL FACADE FOR A SPECIAL STORE The premises of the Østjysk Våbenhandel in Denmark can be clearly seen from a major motorway. For customers, as well as those driving past, the unusual facade of this building catches the eye and is a landmark for the area. RMIG have manufactured and supplied 400 m2 of perforated sheets that make up the facade, and with  RMIG ImagePerf, a giant motif of a pheasant in flight decorates the building. The large open area of the perforated sheets provides good visibility of the outside surroundings for those using the building during the day, and at night the lights in the store’s foyer shine through the perforation, accentuating the stunning image. The challenge was to find a suitable method of connecting the cladding system to the steel structure of the staff car park, and one that was easy to install. SPV Group- the Walsall based refurbishment specialists, have recently completed Phase 2 of the cladding works at The NEC, Birmingham. The cladding works undertaken by SPV form part of a £4.5 million transformation which will completely change the look and feel of the iconic Birmingham based venue. The new design has recently seen 37 pyramid translucent structures installed – created by architects Acivico – that can be backlit to create a stunning visual effect sandwiched between the pyramids are a series of vibrant colour panels designed by global agency McCann. A T-shaped steel bracket with an end plate incorporating four pre- drilled holes was designed. Lindapter Type A Girder Clamps were then specified for the end plate connection to achieve the required tensile resistance and safe working load. A hot dip galvanised (HDG) finish was also specified for the Girder Clamps to provide a high level of corrosion protection. Østjysk Våbenhandel Weapon store, Hedensted, Denmark Architects: Ginneruparkitekter The brackets were connected to the steel sections using Lindapter Type A Girder Clamps through the end plates in a four-bolt configuration. Installation was quick and easy as each bolt is simply inserted into the pre-drilled holes with the Type A on one end and nut on the other. This solution provided a drilling and weld free connection onsite that was quick and easy to install. The project has not only transformed and modernised the dated building which was originally built in 1976, but has also made the area a far more dynamic and engaging environment for all customers and set the NEC apart as one of the best leisure destinations in the country. SPV’s remit was the installation of designed metal rainscreen cassette panel cladding complete with bespoke flashings. www.spv-uk.co.uk/
