Laser Experts’ Key Role in Royal Academy’s
Summer Exhibition
Work by Cutting Technologies is taking the London art world by storm,
thanks to a captivating new installation by the youngest living Royal
Academician.
Laser experts Cutting Technologies worked alongside Ken Ware
Engineers on the project by world-renowned artist, Conrad Shawcross
RA.
The Cutting Technologies team laser cut thousands of tetrahedrons
for Conrad Shawcross’ site-specific installation for the Royal Academy of
Arts Courtyard for the Summer Exhibition 2015.
The 8,000 tetrahedrons were laser cut from 40 tonnes of steel which
form the five groups of steel ‘clouds’ which are now centre stage in the
Annenburg Courtyard as part of Conrad Shawcross’ latest showcase
installation – The Dappled Light of the Sun 2015.
The Summer Exhibition is open to the public from June 8 to August 16.

The WineWall is a bespoke temperature-controlled illuminated wine
display, fitted with solid oak wine racking to accommodate 414 bottles.
Temperature can be set between 6 – 18 degrees Celsius and the selfcontained monobloc cooler means that no drainage or pipework is
required. The WineWall is formed from aluminium-backed insulated
panels and can be assembled almost anywhere. The sliding doors are
formed from double-glazed safety glass and are lockable.
