Useyourcompasto�ndsouth . Markthedirectiononthegroundwithsomechalkorsome sticksindaylightifit ’ seasier . Facethatway . Eastisnowtoyourleftandwestistoyourright .

Usingyourskymap , lookforthenamesoftheplanetsinoursolarsystem . Lookforthe planetsnearesttoEarth . Mercury , Venus , Mars , JupiterandSaturncanalbeseenwiththe nakedeye . However , theywon ’ tnecesarilyalbevisibleatthesametime ( seepage2 ). The skymapwilhelpyoulocatetheplanets ’ positionsontheecliptic – forexampleyoumight needtolooktowardsthesouth-east , highinthesouth , orlowinthewesternsky .
