There ’ s no denying it . Our planet is AAAMAZING ! Lately , however , it ’ s been in the news for all the wrong reasons ( no fault of its own , ed ). While mainstream news focuses on the worst crimes against the environment , it ’ s worth looking as well at positive projects that are making a real difference and can hopefully make us all feel a bit better . Here are just a few .

A BIG DEAL
Claimed to be the largest youth-run conservation project IN THE WORLD , the Penpont Project has tasked itself with saving British wildlife in the Brecon Beacons , Wales . Volunteers are working with farmers and landowners to improve the habitats of native species .
TURNING TRASH INTO CASH
Peruvian schoolboy José Adolfo Quisocala Condori has set up a green bank for children that teaches them to save and also earn money . As well as teaching its members about finance and encouraging recycling , the Banco del Estudiante Bartselana wishes to eradicate child labour and reduce school drop-out numbers caused by poverty .
PHOENIX RISING
Out of the ashes of devastating Australian bushfires , new life is beginning to grow . Green grass shoots have begun to push through in several areas , while rose-coloured flowers have been photographed growing through the trunks of burned trees . It just goes to show that the Earth can recover , sometimes all we need to do is get out of the way and let it happen .
PLASTIC – FANTASTIC !
A collaboration between a university in the UK and a rehabilitation centre in India is transforming plastic bottles into parts for prosthetic limbs . Genius .
WE ’ RE ROOTING FOR YOU
Lélia and Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado have planted more than two million trees in the once barren area of Minas Gerais , Brazil , giving hundreds of animals their homes back .
