I received my fi rst issue
STAR
in November 2016. I live
TT
ER
in England but was born
in Jordan two years
after my older brother (Idris) and
three years before my younger
brother (Oak) and I think Jordan is
amazing – there are caves, castles
and canyons; one year we went
climbing in a canyon! Our mum and
dad are artists and geometers; we
live in a tiny house with a massive
garden. My favourite hobbies
are playing the piano, clothes
designing, reading and cooking.
QUESTIONS: could you include a
team member in charge of music?
Have you done an issue on fashion?
If not can you do one? Can you
do an issue on cars? Can you do
an issue on LEGO? Do you still do
the pen friend club? RESPONSES:
in response to Jacob [Nov 2016] I
do play the piano; in response to
Isabelle I do read Roald Dahl and
Tintin.
Here is poem I wrote for you:
I had a go at looking at my DNA from the Codes and
Coding issue (Nov 2016). Here’s a step-by-step look at
how I got on!
From Hana, age 9½
Sometimes it’s pink sometimes
it’s red
Sometimes orange for its head
It soars through the atmosphere
Then hits the earth and disappears
From Saena, age 10½
Pen friends will be coming up
again later this year.
First of all I want to say that your
magazine is amazing and I love
it! In response to Morgan-Louise
(Jan 2016) I am in Ravenclaw as
well. My brother is in Gryffi ndor
and my mum and dad are both
in Slytherin. I also love acting
and have been on the TV show
Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, I’ve
also been doing voiceover work
since I was eight. I would strongly
recommend the ‘Cherub’ series
to people over 11 years old; it’s
really good. I play the guitar and
have done several performances
regarding it. My favourite subjects
at school are: computing, English,
maths and P.E. My favourite sports
are kayaking, karate and skiing. I
have only just started karate, so I
am only white belt, but I’m going
for my grading in March, is anyone
else?
From Oliver, age 11¼
The Llamas’ Farmers
A pair of hairy old llamas,
Were looking after their farmers.
An invite was sent,
To the White House they went
And had din-dins with the Obamas.
From Owen
My favourite pages are: Over to you, Ian, Things
to make (I love art and craft), and Brainfeeders
(especially Word Morphs). At fi rst, it was my brother
who had the subscription (way back in 2013 – yikes!)
but then, I read some of the back-issues and I loved
them, so we got the subscription for both of us! I was
really excited about the Hong Kong issue, because my
parents met and lived there for 6 years! When I am
older I want to travel the world and live in Japan for
a bit. In response to Erica (October 2016) I absolutely
LOVE to read! And Izzy (Jul/Aug 2016) ) I sleep with
over 7 teddies in my bed!
I love to sing and dance, does anyone else? Some
books that I recommend are: Playing for the
Commandant by Suzy Zail; Rent a Bridesmaid by
Jacqueline Wilson; Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild;
Wonder and Auggie and Me by R. J. Palacio. Here is
some Shakespeare:
I saw a blazing comet fl y
Across the galaxy
The comet’s fl ying really high
Its pattern like a sea
The comet’s fl ying really fast
Its colour greener than the grass
Its fi ery tail would burn a lake
It’s a picture you should take
My favourite issue right now is probably Daredevils
(May 2016). In my spare time I like to read, draw and
play LEGO. I have made a poem; I hope you like it:
Thank you everyone at AQUILA, because you are all so
hopeful and cheery! You all brighten up my days, even
when they are at their lowest! I got my subscription last
Christmas and have loved it ever since! My favourite
issue so far has to be the Hong Kong issue (Feb 2017)
because I learnt so much about a place where a lot
actually takes place! I love art and literacy at school
and Scooby Doo is one of my favourite TV programmes,
along with Pointless (for some reason!) and Top Gear!
For an idea of an issue, you could do it on TV across the
world or something like that! Anyway enough about me,
and more about you. Because you have helped me so
much, AQUILA, here’s a little poem for all of you, even
the readers:
Astra does space,
Which is totally ace,
Aquila does history,
And so he solves us lots of mysteries,
Kit does sports
And tells us all sorts,
Animals is Pepe,
Who is really sweet,
Polly Chrome is arts and crafts,
She tells us a lot of whacky facts,
Harvey is science,
He tells us about all the appliances,
E.B. is environment,
He tells us all the right stuff,
Calculata is maths,
Who is nice and laid back,
And now it’s Wordworm,
Who does lots of research,
And fi nally it’s you,
The viewing crew!
I hope you like my poem! Just as I was
fi nishing it my tooth popped out!
From Hope, age 10
Through the house give glimmering light
By the dead and drowsy fi re
Every elf and fairy sprite
Hop as light as bird from brier
And this ditty after me
Sing and dance it trippingly.
It is from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which I saw
live on stage in Stratford-Upon-Avon (it is called this
because it is on the River Avon!) for my 9th birthday!
Tell Pepe I think he’s adorable!
From Iona C, age 9½
Well thank you Iona, I’m blushing!
I live in Ireland with my mum, dad and younger
brother Rory. I got my subscription from my
grandparents for Christmas. My favourite parts of
AQUILA are Over to you and Polly Chrome. I love
dolphins and I was wondering if you could make an
issue on sea animals. My favourite books are Swallows
and Amazons by Arthur Ransome and Clover Moon
by Jacqueline Wilson. In reply to Rachel (Feb 2017)
I watch Hetty Feather too. In reply to Eleanor (same
issue) I really like your poem. I play the tin whistle,
does anybody else? I hope you like my
AQUILA sign I made out of Hama beads (I
didn’t have the right colours).
From Hannah, age 9
I have got Daredevils (May 2016), Midwinter Feasts
(Dec 2016), Dinosaurs (Jan 2017), Children of WWII
(Sep 2016), Mr Hawking’s Big Idea (March 2017),
Codes & Coding (Nov 2016), Bones (O ct 2016) and
Roald Dahl (Jun 2016) and I liked them so much and
I also like Harry Potter and Minecraft. My brother
likes LEGO Ninjago and his and my favourite ninja is
Lloyd, my brother is called Wolfi e. I absolutely love
your AQUILA magazines, and on the historian side,
please can you do a magazine on ancient mythology?
Thanks.
From Clancy, age 8
