Despite the expected slowdown in employment growth, Texas’s statewide
unemployment rate remained below 5 percent toward the end of 2015. A much more
diversified economy, due largely to rapid growth in the information and health care
industries, has been credited for the resilience of the state economy to an imminent
meltdown. The calculated efforts to promote economic diversification mean that
energy-sector pull-backs have different impacts than in HNN˂
