Brooks county has 185 businesses supporting its
population of about 7,000. The community has
experienced relatively slow economic growth since
the last regional economic downturn beginning in
2009. The number of businesses has shrunk steadily
from the previous peak of 213 in 2007. Judging by
the absolute numbers, businesses are spread rather
evenly across different industries. However, some
industries, such as construction, oil and gas, and retail
trade, are relatively larger in terms of employment and
sales. The dominancy of retail trade in Brooks County
translates into relatively low levels of industry and
occupation diversity.
The community has experienced relatively slow economic growth
since the last regional economic downturn beginning in 2009.
