SHE ’ S the palomino Quarter Horse mare with the red tinge in her mane and tail . Vince Bonello says she ’ s the matriarch of most of what he and Sally have bred at Delta Quarter Horse Stud , situated at Duri , near Tamworth , NSW . At the ripe old age of 37 , Lady In Red , no longer has all of her teeth , but is assured of plenty of the love and care she deserves , spending most of her days in the Bonello houseyard .
Bred and owned by Vince and Sally Bonello , Vince says that ‘ She may be old , but if you ’ re not quick enough , she ’ ll still beat you out of the open gate ’. He describes Lady In Red as being a quirky sort of a mare , very much like her dam , Clover Cherry Ripe Q-953 , and grand-dam , Clover Cherry Q-56 .
Today , Lady is deserving of the spotlight shining on her . The mare has been a prolific producer of outstanding AQHA progeny . Many of her progeny went on to make their mark in the high performance world of Cutting and Campdrafting , but have also produced incredibly talented progeny that have , and are still ‘ carrying the baton ’.
Lady was foaled in 1987 , to the JackHammer Q-47 sired , Clover Cherry Ripe , whose dam , Clover Cherry , was imported by Gregory Lougher , of Clover Leaf Stud . In 1968 , Greg famously rode Clover Cherry to give a Cutting and Western Horsemanship demonstration at the Sydney Royal Easter Show , in front of thousands of spectators , and it caused quite a buzz across the Australian equine industry . Vince says that when you go back to Clover Cherry , every branch of her tree ‘ has fruit on it ’.
Lady in Red ’ s sire , Smart Little Diablo Q-18444 , by Smart Little Lena , was found in the USA for Vince and Sally by Hamish McCallum , the talented horseman , and Sally ’ s late brother . Vince imported Smart Little Diablo to Australia , as a weanling colt .

Fast forward to 1991 , Lady In Red and her half-sister , both by Smart Little Diablo , were each paid up for the NCHA
