While looking to the States to keep up with all the latest trends and training methods , Will says that he ’ s most inspired by his peers .
‘ Carolyn Johnson , and Kane and Holly Skopp have played an integral role in the horse trainer I am today . I believe to be the best you need to surround yourself with the best . In Australia , we have some great horse trainers and the quality of horses they turn out is something to strive for every year .'
Each value the similar showing advice given them early on , and for Emlyn , her best was , ‘ Show like you ’ re on the best horse in the class , and train like you ’ re going to win , even if you don ’ t think you can .’ Will ’ s was , ‘ Ride the horse you ’ re on . You can ’ t always be the best mounted in the class , but you can be the best prepared .’ Both say that the major shows can be full of lessons , assisting them to become better trainers , exhibitors , and people .
‘ Major shows can bring out the best and worst in people ,’ Will says . ‘ If you put enough different personalities together in a competitive setting you ’ re bound to see some true colours . It ’ s important to remember that no matter how stressed you are , how much money you ’ ve spent , or how hard you ’ ve worked , the horses ’ happiness and welfare should always come first .’
