The palomino colt was sourced and purchased in 1987 by Jim & Robyn McMillan, Litchfield Park, Darwin, from Mr. Grant Allen’s, Gold Mine Quarter Horse Stud in Mt Isa. Warlord spent his early days on the station, and was later taken to Mr. Wayne Williams of Eban Quarter Horse Stud, Noonamah, for his early training and breaking. Warlord was shown in Halter events, placing first in nearly every event, and also placing Champion Halter Stallion/Colt, in the Darwin Top End Western Performance Club, and the Northern Territory Quarter Horse Club. In the NT Jim and Robyn McMillan were members of AQHA, AmQHA, ABRCA, TEWPC, DQHA and competed in Western Shows, NT Campdrafting circuit and the NT Rodeo circuit. Warlord was used to compete in all of these events and was successful in Steer Roping, Steer Un-decorating, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Hazing for other roping competitors. At Darwin Royal Show, Warlord was competing successfully in all of the Western Ridden Program of Events, plus he was also ridden in the ‘Open’ Rider events. He won Supreme Champion Exhibit at Halter in two consecutive years - 1991 and 1992. He was used in AQHA Promotional activities, to show the quiet temperament to the general public. SOME ACHIEVEMENTS WERE:- Register of Merits in Halter, Performance, Trail, Western Pleasure. QH Champion Award, AQHA Superior Horse, Bronze Century Award, Hi Point – Amateur Owner Horse NT – Jim Macmillan, AQHA – EOY Hi Point – Amateur Owner – NT – Jim Macmillan, Hi Point Newcomer – NT - Robyn Macmillan, TEWPC & NTQHA– Hi Point Western Horse Award. In 1995 the McMillan family moved to WA. They joined the WAQHA in 1995 and started competing in Western Shows throughout WA. He was now in the Senior Horse category, and continued on his winning way. Warlord won every single Hi Point Senior Horse Awards at Shows in 1999. Warlord went to Dawn and Gary Marshall’s Hobby Horse Training, and they took the reins and showed him for a season. He won WAQHA Open Trail Stakes, Senior Reining, Champion Stallion, Supreme Champion QH and Supreme Champion of Show at Gosnells All breeds Spectacular, Supreme of Supremes at Darling Range All Breeds Show and much more. The McMillan’s have been life-long fans of the American Quarter Horse and the Australian Quarter Horse, and Warlord was registered with the AmQHA, and the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association of America. Warlord had competed in nearly everything, except Cutting in which his sire MR WAR CUTTER was one of the most decorated cutters of his time, with Max McTaggart. Warlord has left his mark on his progeny, as did MR WAR CUTTER with him. Through having such a good disposition these invaluable traits have been passed through to his progeny, and have made great Amateur Owner and Youth Horses.
