It’ s a combination of temperament and talent that makes him particularly appealing, not only as a competitor but as a sire.
Transporting a young stallion across the globe is no small undertaking, yet the process proved smoother than expected. With the assistance of International Racehorse Transport( IRT), Valentino Z’ s journey, from his home farm in the United States, through quarantine in Kentucky and New Zealand, to his final destination in Singleton, New South Wales was handled with professionalism and care.“ They took care of everything and kept us updated the whole time,” Ralston says.“ It made the whole process straightforward.”
Behind every success story is a network of support, and Ralston acknowledges the role of those who have backed his journey, particularly Daniel Phillips. " The decision to import Valentino Z was a collaborative vision shared by both Daniel and myself, with Daniel offering his full support from the start. His belief in the concept and confidence in the stallion’ s potential played a pivotal role in bringing the plan to life. We did it together and the results speak for themselves,” Ralston says.
From the moment Valentino Z A1-14288( Imp) arrived, it was clear he was something special.“ Right from the beginning, he showed willingness and a real desire to please,” Ralston explains. That natural attitude, paired with raw ability, quickly translated into results.
At just four years old, Valentino Z A1-14288( Imp) etched his name into the record books, breaking an Australian record and securing a landmark victory at the 2026 ABHA Futurity an extraordinary achievement, particularly given he had only been in the country for ten months and was competing against older, more seasoned horses. It was a defining moment not just for Ralston, but for the stallion himself.
While the accolades are significant, Ralston is quick to shift the focus back to Valentino Z A1-14288( Imp). A Quarter Horse Championships Barrel Race win stands among his proudest achievements, but the greater goal lies in showcasing the stallion’ s capabilities.“ It’ s important for Valentino Z as we present him as a talented sire,” he notes.
Managing a young horse of this calibre requires a balanced approach. For Ralston, the philosophy is simple: keep the horse fit, happy, and avoid overworking him. It’ s a strategy designed to ensure longevity in a demanding sport where soundness and mental wellbeing are just as critical as speed.
Looking ahead, the goals for Valentino Z are clear. A return to the ABHA National Finals Barrel Racing Futurity remains a priority, alongside his first full season standing at stud in Australia. The response from breeders has already been overwhelming, with more than 40 mares booked in his inaugural season many before his record breaking run. This level of early support speaks volumes about industry confidence in both the stallion and Ralston’ s vision.
A key factor in Valentino Z’ s appeal lies in his accessibility. With a reasonable service fee and completely fresh bloodlines, he represents an opportunity for breeders seeking to elevate their programs.“ We had a lot of quality, proven mares come to him,” Ralston explains.
“ We believe he’ ll have a big impact on the barrel racing industry here.”
