PRESIDENT REPORT- MAY / JUNE 2025
RICKY GLEN- PRESIDENT
Dear Members,
I hope you all agree with me in saying that Q25 was a great show, with the increase in prizemoney approved by the board, the 2nd USA judge on board, a great show team led by Jeff Hall, the office team led by our general manager, Gemma Clarke and of course the workers that made the show the outstanding success it was.
I was glad I was able to attend the welcoming dinner on the 1st night to see some of you again and the Youth and Amateurs had an auction to raise funds for the 2025 Trans Tasman competition that will be held in Victoria this year and over $ 7,000.00 was raised which will be split down the middle between the two groups.
Congratulations also to Olivia Palfreyman for taking out the $ 500.00 cash award given to the most successful Profesional Horseman / Horsewoman at the show. This is a great incentive given out by the Professional Horseman Division of the AQHA who gives out these incentives at major shows about Australia in support of being a Professional Horseman with the AQHA. This portfolio is headed up by Dave Caleo.
Please do not forget the youth Stallion Auction coming up and we look for 2025 to be bigger and better than 2024. They are seeking donations of stallion services from stallions covering all aspects of AQHA disciplines and this will help fund some great projects for the AQHA Youth in the next 12 months. This is for the AQHA Youth and please support the future of the association through this auction. The stallion owners will get coverage through the magazine and website so this will help support this coming breeding season for your stallion.
The board will be having a Q25 de-brief at the June board meeting to discuss the show and look at ways to further improve it for the membership. I think if we had an extra day or two added, it would take some of the late finishes away and we have asked ALEC to look at this so we will see what the reply is from them.
Speaking about the June meeting, it is our annual budget meeting were the programs are set for the next 12 months and all portfolio members bring their wish lists to the table for discussion. This is an integral part of the AQHA as to run programs like judges seminars, youth camps ect takes a lot of planning and money to do so and ensure budgets are met.
The 2025 Nutrien Supreme sale held in Toowoomba in May was again a great success with Quarter Horses again leading to charge in top priced lots with Petes Pet Squirrell led the overall sale and the high priced mare selling for $ 150,000.00 to Ringers Western Wear.
High selling Broodmare was Sereness sired by Acres Destiny selling for $ 75,000.00 to Vohland Quarter Horses, two geldings equal topped the gelding markets at $ 57,750.00 each with Really Roanie sired by RS Chisum and Skitchem Duck sired by Breks Duck Yeah sharing top honours.
The next approved AQHA sale will be the NCHA Select sale held during the NCHA Futurity in June this year in Tamworth and this show showcases the leading 3 year old cutting horses showing at their 1st competition with the winner taking away a cheque for $ 100,000.00.
The AQHA is a proud partner with the NCHA with the elite 4 year old NCHA Open Derby being held were we host a Breeders and Owners get together on the Saturday night of the Derby final.
The NPHA show will be done and dusted by the time you read this and many of our members will be there to show the elite of the Western Pleasure horses in Futurity and open events held there.
Other states are gearing up for their state shows coming up so it’ s a full calendar of events leading up the 2025 breeding season.
Speaking of the breeding season, don’ t forget that registrations and breeding returns are due by the 31st of May this year so please do not be late so you avoid paying late fees.
Our Annual Awards and Dinner will be held in Melbourne this year and this is the place that members who have shown so hard during the year are recognised for their achievements and we also welcome the class of the 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees which will also be honoured there on the nights as well.
As always, I encourage members to contact directors if they have any questions about their portfolio as we are here to help you. By giving us feedback it helps us understand the memberships needs with anything to do with the AQHA.
As always, stay safe and good showing! Ricky Glen- AQHA President
