Tasmanian State Quarter Horse Show

The Tasmanian State Quarter Horse Show commenced on
Saturday the 13th of February 2016. Light rain was falling
as competitors were preparing their Halter contenders,
but this did not deter them from presenting some
beautifully turned out horses for our judge, Kate Elliot
from Victoria.
Showmanship Classes came next with some dazzling
outfits and horses. As the heat of the day increased
so did the competition in the Trail section with strong
performances from the competitors. The Trail Classic was
won by Chocolate Makes Me Hot, ridden by Kate Austen.
The day then started to pick up pace with Ranch Riding,
Western Riding and Reining. It was full steam ahead after
that with the Keyhole Race and Barrel Racing, where the
horses were allowed to stretch out. There was a change
of pace with the commencement of the English Classes,
which rounded out the day with the Hack Classes.
Sunday’s classes commenced in heavy smoke, which was
blanketing the North West Coast from the devastating
fires. Western Pleasure classes were easy to watch, as the
sparkling outfits were easily seen and easy on the eye – a
real fashion parade. The winner of the “Karen Wallace
Memorial Gift” was Springvale Golden Rule, ridden by
Georgia Weavell. The Horsemanship flowed beautifully
with well-trained mounts and riders working together as
well oiled teams.
