2026 NUTRIEN CLASSIC CHALLENGE CAMPDRAFT- AQHA OWNER INCENTIVE WINNER
A TRAINING PHILOSOPHY BUILT ON CONNECTION Securing the top three placings in a prestigious event highlights not just individual horse talent but also the consistency of Macintosh’ s training approach.
“ I like to build a strong connection with all my horses,” she says.“ Every horse is different, so I take the time to build a foundation in their time instead of mine.”
That philosophy is simple but powerful.“ I’ m choosing a relationship over a result.”
PREPARATION WITHOUT PRESSURE Interestingly, Macintosh says this year’ s preparation leading into the 2026 Nutrien Classic Challenge was relatively straightforward.
“ I felt my three horses were already well travelled for their age,” she explains.“ So the lead-up was mostly about getting them fit, keeping them happy and keeping their confidence up.”
ADVICE FOR ASPIRING COMPETITORS For riders dreaming of competing at elite events, Macintosh’ s advice is refreshingly direct.
“ Have trust in yourself and back yourself,” she says.“ Chase what makes you nervous.”
LOOKING AHEAD While her victory marks a career milestone, the future already holds new directions. Over the coming year, Metric Man Q-97271 will transition to the campdraft arena with his owner Les Stewart.
Meanwhile, Macintosh herself is preparing for an exciting international chapter.
“ My next adventure is heading to the States for twelve months to be part of the team at Slate River Ranch,” she says.
When she returns to Australia, she plans to continue sharing her knowledge through her clinics and training programs.
“ I’ ll be back doing my clinics with High Heel Horses,” she says.
From a remarkable night in the arena to an international opportunity ahead, Penny Macintosh’ s journey is a testament to dedication, horsemanship and the partnerships that define the sport. And if her record-breaking performance at the 2026 Nutrien Classic Challenge is any indication, this is only the beginning of what lies ahead.
