I SPOKE WITH BREANNA COOK ABOUT HER SMART & VERSATILE AQHA MARE . WHETHER CAMPDRAFTING , CUTTING , LIBERTY SHOWS AND BREEDING - FLIRT HAS PROVEN HER TALENTS !
‘ When I was 10yo we went on our first and last big holiday to NSW . While there , our parents booked my brother and me into a Trick Riding Clinic . Although my brother was the athletic one with no fear , I loved it !! Once home , but with no idea how , we began training our mustering horses to become trick riding horses . Mum would spend hours at the arena so we could get some horses ‘ trained ’. My brother decided it was too ‘ girly ’ to continue , so it just became me . Along the way I had a few friends join and we did some performances around local shows and rodeos .
At 13 , with my parents help , I broke-in my first pony , Leroy . We helped with mustering around the property , and later , went campdrafting . Unable to forget Trick Riding , I soon started doing tricks on him . Leroy was kind and patient . Year 11 work experience saw me work for trainer , Scott Finlayson , near Rockhampton . I ’ m so grateful that Scott gave me the opportunity to work with trained Liberty horses , and learn the basics . It really inspired me and I began Liberty training with my horses .
My Mum bought an AQHA 2yo filly , called Sweet Stylish Girl Q-81783 , a sensitive soul . I fell in love with the filly , happily reimbursing Mum for the purchase . I called her Flirt , broke her in and carefully commenced her training , which included Liberty , and she ’ s proved to be very intelligent .’
LIBERTY AND VERSATILITY !
Today , Flirt ’ s is one of my main Liberty horses . Flirt has helped fulfil my dream of performing Liberty Roman Riding , sharing the spotlight with my other horse , Scooter . Together , these two horses perform wonderfully . Flirt also excels in the Rearing trick . Being a Quarter Horse , she has the muscle , power and energy to get the height she does . I think it ’ s actually her favourite trick in our Liberty Shows !
