PG.37 DIRECTOR REPORTS - 2020/2021 RICKY GLEN - Portfolio: Cattle & Timed Events, Hall of Fame Cattle and Timed Event. Dear AQHA members, it’s again with pleasure that I present to you my report and it’s with dismay that, as you all know, so many events were cancelled in this trying time. Like many of you, I wish 2020 would just end and let’s start afresh but it’s with great confidence to see members who participate in this portfolio show resistance to throwing the towel in and ready to get back into the show pen or arena to show their AQHA registered horses again. As you know, some states are back showing and with the border restrictions in place, it places a great burden on our members to do so. The AQHA has sanctioned incentive payouts for my portfolio were as members owning or showing registered Quarter Horses can claim incentives if there horses get up and win or are the highest placing Quarter Horse in some of the leading event during the year. The budget for the past year was $35,000.00 for incentive payouts for this portfolio but sadly due to many events being cancelled, this was not paid out in full. In the previous several years, this plus more each year has been awarded to members who show Cattle and Timed Event horses and own or have bred them. This portfolio recognises the significance of this side of our industry and the AQHA will continue to support the members and breeders who compete in these areas. I am a great believer in this portfolio and I hope to see the next few years get bigger and better for our members, I recognise the struggle that this pandemic has brought to our members but rest assured that the AQHA will continue to support you in these events and I wish you a better 2021 to come. I wish to thank my sub committee, Kim Johnson, Phil Webb and Rob Leach for their input into these areas and to Gemma Clarke and also to the board of the AQHA who supports this portfolio. With Thanks, Ricky Glen (Cattle and Timed Events Chairperson) Hall Of Fame. Dear AQHA members, again it with much pride to submit my report for the Hall of Fame portfolio for the AQHA. Due to there not being an annual dinner in 2020, there will be no presentation of Hall of Fame recipient’s but this will be held over to the 2021 AQHA dinner. Likewise, the nominations for inductees received for consideration for 2020 will be held over till the closing date of January, 2021 and the new recipients, along with those who have been held over from the previous year, will be honoured at the dinner listed above. To be an AQHA Hall of Fame recipient, is one of the greatest honours the AQHA can bestow on a person or a horse and it shows the industries appreciation for the services or contributions these people or horses have made to make the AQHA into one of the leading breed associations that it is today. Owners of horses can also be awarded the Medal of Esteem or Excellence which similar to the HOF, recognises them for their contribution to the breed. As always, I urge people who have had an association with an early member or horse not to discard anything that maybe considered history to the AQHA and to donate these items or allow the AQHA to be a care taker to ensure our history is preserved. We have many items on display in our office which has been donated to the AQHA which present members can see to appreciate our past and also many items in our archives which will one day be part of future Hall of Fame displays at the AQHA offices. I would like to thank my sub committee, Kim Johnson, Karen Thrun and Sue Williams for their input into this portfolio and also to Marg Hausfeld who many of you would know from the office who collates the information we need to research HOF nominees. I also would like to thank the board of the AQHA for their support in this portfolio. With Thanks, Ricky Glen (Hall of Fame Chairperson) SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER ISSUE 2020
