MEET the Coolah Cowgirl who knew a barrel racing pattern before she could write her name . She has become one of the Rodeos most immense junior talents and proven she ’ s one to watch . It hasn ’ t been a smooth road to success , but the 15-yearold has learnt some valuable lessons along the way and earned some lifelong friends .

Her family is the reason Skyla loves the sport of Rodeo , in particular Barrel Racing . I guess you could say she was born and bred into a horse family . Her parents have a love for horses and have been involved with horses for a long time . Her Dad rode Bulls and competed in Steer Wrestling .

Skyla ’ s grandparents also had horses and owned Long Hill Quarter Horse Stud . They owned ‘ Jackaroo ’ ( Hired Hand x Tetera ), one of the first four Quarter Horses imported into Australia .
He was the first American Quarter Horse to be auctioned in Australia in 1961 at the annual King Ranch Sale , setting an Australian record price at 3,000 Guineas ($ 6,300 ). He was purchased by Sam Hordern Jnr and Jack Reilly from NSW . Robert Baldwin then purchased him for $ 5000 in 1967 . “ He was then sold to my Pop in 1972 and was awarded his AQHA Award of Honour in recognition to the Quarter Horse Breed ,” said Skyla .
