‘ AFTER Yoorana Calamity Jane ’ s injury , we were unsure if she ’ d carry a foal . We flushed an embryo by Acres Destiny ( Q-38061 ), with the result , Yoorana Copper Acres ( A3-563 ). We eventually bred her to MB , to carry a foal herself . All went well and she foaled Yoorana Gunsmoke . Unfortunately we were unable to continue breeding Calamity .’
After breeding Yoorana Copper Acres , the Morgans faced a dilemma . As they already had their stallion , MB , and as much as they loved Calamity , they really wanted to keep those bloodlines , but weren ’ t sure they could handle having two stallions . So , Yoorana Copper Acres , aka Ace , was entered in Landmark Toowoomba ’ s sale . ‘ As fate would have it ,’ Karen says . ‘ He didn ’ t meet the reserve and we took him home . Today , we are so thankful he didn ’ t sell !’
Ace was broken in by Adam Wallen , with Erin continuing his education . She thought the world of him and could see much of his dam shining through . Winning all his 2yo classes at his first show , the Nationals at Lismore , he then placed 2nd in a Challenge and 2nd in a 2yo Futurity . As a 2 & 3yo , he was only lightly competed . Erin wanted him 100 % ready , before she more seriously competed on him . He was brought slowly along at home , taken to work and given time to mature . The Morgans wanted Ace around for a long time , so there was no need to rush him .
‘ The focus turned to Campdrafts and Challenges ,’ Karen explains . ‘ We decided to seriously campaign him as a 4 & 5yo . He won his first Campdraft start , just missing his first ASCA Classic Challenge

Final at Monto . The slow , steady work was paying off . By 6yo , he was an Open Campdraft horse . Our friend Jay Charnock campaigned Ace when Erin couldn ’ t , due to work commitments .’
Jay had success at the 2017 Warwick Gold Cup Campdraft , placing 6th in the Stallion Draft , and had an outstanding campaign at Sydney Royal Easter Show 2017 , achieving runner-up most Versatile ASH . At the 2017 ASH Nationals at Tamworth , he placed 6th in the Open Challenge . Ace & Erin then won an ASCA Rookie Challenge at Toowoomba and an Open Challenge in Grafton in 2017 . He was Runner-up ABCRA Novice Campdraft Horse 2018 and placed 2nd in the Stallion Draft at the 2019 ASH Nationals at Tamworth . He has to date ( along with what ’ s already listed above ) won two Novice , three Ladies and two Open Campdrafts , four Open Challenges , and a Rookie Challenge , plus many placings .
‘ At 10yo , we hope for a long , successful career for Ace ,’ Karen says . ‘ He ’ s a gentle soul and a lot of fun to have around . He ’ s soft and responsive and that makes training him a breeze . He ’ s such a sensitive horse you only have to raise your voice for him to know he ’ s in trouble , but loves to be loved on . He ’ s achieving lovely progeny , the oldest being 5yo . We bought two AQHA broodmares from Jim Page and they ’ re producing great foals . We ’ ve retained , Barbie , a lovely Yoorana Copper Acres 2yo Palomino filly out of an Obviously Okie mare . The cross between the MB broodmares and Ace is working really well . We ’ ve bred Yoorana Diva to Ace the last few years , resulting in quality foals . The eldest , Bohrenna D ’ vine Acres has only been shown in 5 Challenges , due to the limited events the last two years with two wins and three placings .
