AQHA OPEN DERBY INCENTIVE
Buttsy provided Heath with two catch-rides in the Australian Quarter Horse Association Open Derby . The first nomination was Koobah Performance Horses ’ s fabulous red roan stallion ‘ Branchvale Metal Alloy Q-93525 ’ ( Metallic Cat X Rey ’ s Little Hottie ) that Mark has had plenty of success on and the second was Tom Strachan ’ s ‘ Ducktacular Q-92256 ’ ( Metallic Cat X Dashing Duckling bred by the late ‘ Long John Brekelmans ).
With just a couple of practise pen rides on each , remarkably , Heath finalled them both ! ‘ Branchvale Metal Alloy Q-93525 ’ with rounds of 219pts and 217pts for 436pts and outright eighth in the aggregate and ‘ Ducktacular Q-92256 ’ he showed for 219.50 pts and 218pts to split 5th in the aggregate on 437.50pts .
Just one other little interesting bit of background on ‘ Ductackular Q-92256 ’. She is a 3 / 4 sister to ‘ Ducks Dux Q-64729 ’, the the legendary mare , Australia ’ s highest money winning horse , ( inducted into the Horse Hall of Fame in 2013 ) the 2011 Open Futurity champion under the saddle of Clint Allen , the 2012 Non Pro Derby Champion under the saddle of John Brekelmans and John also showed her to win the 2016 Open Gold Cup - but here ’ s another bit to the ‘ thing ’.
Not many people ever got to ride ‘ Ducks Dux Q-64729 ’. She was quite particular . Heath was one of the fortunate few . He showed ‘ Ducks Dux Q-64729 ’ ( Sophisicated Catt X Dashing Duckling ) to win the Comet Futurity in 2011 and the Toowoomba Derby in 2012 .
Tonight , in front of large and loud crowd , Heath Sinclair showed his catch-ride ‘ Ducktacular Q-92256 ’ in the final of the Australian Quarter Horse Association Open Derby for a spectacular 224pts which was one and a half points ahead of second placed Grant Quigley showing Ray Randle ’ s red roan mare ‘ BC Sannpiper Q-94555 ’ ( Sannman X Rio Chic ) with 222.50 pts and third placed Steve Smith showing Pam Murphy ’ s bay roan stallion ‘ Metallic Reyting Q-92038 ’ ( Metallic Cat X Reyving About This Hat ).
He also showed ‘ Branchvale Metal Alloy Q-93525 ’ into ninth place with a 218pt marking . What a remarkable night . Things happen for a reason , Heath ’ s right .
The 2022 Australian Quarter Horse Association Open Derby Champion will receive a stunning Trophy Saddle from two of the nicest blokes on the planet and one of the longest time supporters of our show and our sport , Mr Bob Johnston and Mr Bob Guest aka Two Bob Saddlery Co .
The champion also receives a Trophy Buckle from the NCHA and a Trophy Saddle Pad kindly provided by Di and Vic Vickers of the Diamond Wool Pad Co . - AUS . together with a $ 300 Ariat Australia voucher and a beautiful garland to complete the presentation picture !
Our Reserve Champion will be the recipient of a set of Iconoclast Boots kindly provided by David Banks at Iconoclast Equine Support Boots Australia and all of our finalists receive an Ariat Australia voucher and a finalist sash .
AQHA OPEN DERBY INCENTIVE
The Australian Quarter Horse Association have very kindly added an incentive that can be won by the Owners and Breeders of the horse that is shown under their full registered name ( The Owner / Breeder must of course be a current financial Member of the AQHA . Up for grabs is $ 5,000 in incentives . We ’ ll announce the winner in the morning .
