“ 12yo Bay Mare Elektra stands 14.2hh and has been my main Rodeo mount for six years . A very energetic mare with a big heart that excels in the Rodeo Arena . It ’ s hard to get off her to ride the other horses . She is small like me , so she ' s a great fit . Her only weakness is heavy ground conditions . She is a low maintenance horse and would run on three legs ; she is always ready to rock .”
“ Fitness regime for a Barrel Racing horse is a little different than the younger horses or other competition horses . I don ’ t ride the Open Barrel horses excessively and certainly , consider recovery when training / riding . But to give a basic overview , each horse has a different program . Fitness may include some or all of the following : trail riding - this is the main activity in winter months , swimming - summer months only , mustering , roping , long trotting , sprinting , groundwork , flatwork , stretching , and jumping . They receive regular Chiropractic treatment , and I also use an Equissage machine , sound wave machine and a PEMF machine ,” Julie said .
Julie has been competing for around 35 years and loves the passion , devotion and dedication she sees from the horse industry . “ The grace , beauty and playfulness of the horses and the ones with unique characteristics ” Julie loves .
