Greg trained and showed King Ranch Quarter Banjo R1-251 , to win the Open Trail Horse at 1971 Moe Quarter Horse Championships , Victoria , as well as King Ranch Amber Q138 , who became an Australian Quarter Horse Champion . With a great affinity with young riders , Greg trained and mentored many to become High Point Youth competitors , some even venturing over to the USA to become successful trainers & competitors there .

As a note of interest , in 1974 , when HRH Princess Anne and her then husband , Captain Mark Phillips , visited Sydney , Greg Gilpin was called upon to supply some Quarter horses for them to ride . The horses chosen were arguably some of the best of their times , brought across from King Ranch , Bowral , NSW to Camden Park by Greg . Princess Anne rode King Ranch Quarter Banjo , an 8yo first cross gelding who ’ d been performing well in competition during that time .
Greg ’ s passion was Polocrosse , and as one of the best in the country , he represented Burradoo Polocrosse Club , he competing alongside his brother , Neville , and some of the best riders in the Southern Highlands . Greg ’ s involvement with Quarter horses saw the breed playing at the highest levels of Polocrosse all around Australia .
A great family man , Greg and his wife , Pat , had three sons Geoff , Michael & Ian ( who unfortunately died at an early age ). Both Geoff & Michael were trained by
