Gatton Quarter Horse & Performance Association ran the 2018 W N Webb & Associates Sunshine State Show. Once again, the Queensland weather proved perfect with beautiful conditions to show in. Without all our wonderful sponsors the week of shows would not have been as successful as it was.
The week of shows began on Friday night with four Halter Futurities judged by Mr Shane Massingham. Winner of the Weanling Futurity was Search Parr Te shown by Adam O’ Connell. The Yearling Futurity, was won by JVQ Showtime Q-85416 shown by Sam Daley. The third Futurity, the 2 & 3 Year Old, was won by JSS Sectret Design Q-83247 shown by Sam Smith. To finish off the night the winner of the 4 & Over was BM Sublety Q-75560 shown by Sam Daley.
Saturday and Sunday saw the A / AA show judged by Mrs Justine Morlett and Miss Debra Watson. Two big days of showing with great numbers in all the classes. A double judge all American Show was run on Monday the 2nd of July. Miss Debra Watson judged with Mrs Katherine Kope, the USA judge from Cocoa Beach Florida, for the first ever double judge American Show to be held in Queensland.
That evening the GQHPA committee welcomed judges, competitors, spectators and sponsors to Gatton for the opening ceremony of the State Show, where Hannah Lonigan sang both the American and Australian National Anthems. Following the opening ceremony the club held a BBQ for everyone to come along and socialise before the next four days of showing.
Tuesday morning began with showmanship, with Kerry Derksen winning the $ 1000 Roswal Trailer Amateur Showmanship class. The Jess Voss Memorial three Year Old Mare Class, a beautiful buckle sponsored by Gail Stirling, was won by Whisper A Secret, shown by Christine Sewell. Champion Colt / Stallion of the show was JSS Secret Design Q-83247 shown by Jason Smith, AO Champion Colt / Stallion JVQ Showtime Q-85416 exhibited by Carl Hodgson, Champion Open & Amateur gelding was Elusive Skip Q-78520 shown by Thereisa Witheridge and Champion Open & Amateur mare was BM Subtlety Q-75560, owned by Darryll Stephens and shown by Sam Daley. Elusive Skip and BM Subtlety both won Youth Champions for their handlers, Amelia Galea and Syerra Daley.
Final events of Tuesday were the first of the Trails. The winner of the $ 500 2 Year Old Led Trail, sponsored by Jakasan Drilling was Cool Result, shown by Jeff Hall. W N Webb & Associates sponsored the $ 500 Junior Horse Trail, which was won by Triandibo Inevitablynx and ridden by Trish Wettenhall. The $ 500 Select Amateur Trail, sponsored by Essential Equine Nutrition was won by Helen Nixon riding Triandibo Infullplay.
Wednesday started with the Hunters. The Hunter In Hand Classes were hotly contested with great numbers in all three events. The $ 500 Senior Horse Hunter Under Saddle, sponsored by W N Webb was won by VS Heartbeat shown by Lyndall Dauth. Heiniger Clippers sponsored the 3 Year Old Hunter Under Saddle with a pair of Sapphir clippers valued at $ 500 and was won by Gotta Love That, shown by Carolyn Johnson. Hunt Seat Equitations followed with Elizabeth Hobbs-Daley riding TMD Delightful to win the $ 500 15-18 year old HSE sponsored by GQHPA. Trails finished the day with A Ranged Investment, shown by Holly Johnson to win the $ 500 3 Year Old Trail sponsored by W N Webb & Associates.
Ranch Riding started Thursday’ s events followed by Western Pleasures, Horsemanships, Reining and Western Riding. Ranch Riding is building popularity in Queensland, with great numbers in all events this year. BSP Somethin Pretty Hot, shown by Natasha Backhouse won the $ 500 2 Year Old Western Pleasure sponsored by W N Webb & Associates. Sommers Sawdust Supplies donated a beautiful embroidered rug for the winner of the 7-11 Youth Western Pleasure, this was won by Sienna Humphries riding Best Tee Time. Jessie Fyfe-Farrel, won the $ 500 Amateur Horsemanship sponsored by GQHPA.
The last day of the W N Webb Sunshine State Show ended with Dressage and Hacks, judged by Mrs Christine Girling. Ipswich Saddleworld sponsored a rug for the highest Dressage score, which was won by Lacey Lalor riding Denims The Menace. Ipswich Saddleworld also sponsored a rug for the Champion Hack of the show, which was won by HL Theodore shown by Janet Mansley.
The Gatton Quarter Horse & Performance Association would like to thank all our amazing sponsors for their support and generosity at this year’ s W N Webb & Associates Sunshine State Show. They would also like to thank all the competitors and spectators who travelled from as far as North Queensland, to as south as Victoria. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed and friendly atmosphere as well as the social evenings of a free competitor BBQ, Trivia and pizza night and line dancing. GQHPA are now looking towards the 2019 Qld State Show.
