2015 QH
CHAMPIONSHIPS
BM Subtley and Sam Daley
Sydney International Equestrian Centre,
the home of many outstanding equine
events, was the venue for the New South
Wales Quarter Horse Championship for
2015. Hosted by the Committee of the
National Pleasure Horse Association,
it ran in conjunction with the NPHA
Celebration, making a spectacular week
of feature events as well as the point
earning AQHA program. With AAA
points for the State Show, and triple
points from the AQHA AA and A Shows,
it was an extravaganza for those seeking
points for Awards and High Points.
Over $20,000 in prize money added to
the prestige of this well run event. An
American QHA Show was also held in
conjunction with the Championships.
Joanne Gregory, who has run these two
shows for a number of years, broke her
ankle on the morning of the first day
and had to go to hospital. Needing help
with new staff in the office this year,
Carol Ricketts, a close friend of Joanne’s,
changed her weekend plans and came
down to help out with the running of the
Championships. Aren’t friends great!
Brent Maxwell from the USA was the
judge for all the classes at the NSW
Championships, as well as the feature
classes. With long days and lots of
entries he did an excellent job and with
the weather deciding to be absolutely

stunning, it was a most enjoyable show.
Cassie Reed and Cool Break had great
success in the Dressage arena, taking out
the Preliminary, Amateur and Novice
Dressage tests as well as the Champion
in the Open Show Hunter Class. These
events really showcase the versatility
of the Quarter Horse and there were
many outstanding performances in these
classes, which were judged by qualified
EA Judge, Carolyn Wright.
The three halter feature events on the
program were the Weanling Halter
Feature taken out by Telmiasecret,
owned by Nicole Wilson and shown by
Tim French. The Yearling Halter Feature
