Tasmanian
Quarter Horse State Show
Article - Carol Ahern
Rain, Rain and more Rain!
That’s what competitors faced on day one
of the Tasmanian Quarter Horse State
Show.
On the 14th and 15th February the
Southern Tasmanian Quarter Horse
Association hosted the Tasmanian State
Show.
The judge for the weekend was Gillian
Vaux from NSW, who did a remarkable
job despite the weather. Our official
photographer, also from NSW, was Nicole
Wilson – Ace photography.
Saturday started with the Weanling
and Halter Futurities. There were some
very lovely horses being judged in those
classes, with the Weanling Futurity
going to Miss Subtle T, shown by Rebecca
Jones and the Yearling Futurity won
by Clairveaux Hotndreamydoll, shown
by Pam Jones. The sponsors for the
Halter Classes were International
Animal Health and Garlands supplied by
Clairveaux Quarter Horses.
Once the Halter events were finished
we went straight into the Performance
events, with the first six classes
sponsored by Hygain. The Junior and
Senior Hunter in Hand Classes were
two of the biggest on the program with
Susan Gittus showing Clairveaux Model
winning the Junior, then her sister Carol
Ahern followed up with a win in the
Senior Horse showing Annlee Top Shot.
The ridden Hunter Classes started after
lunch, with a mixture of sponsorship
from Rural Solution, NRG, Hygain, Love
My Horse and Tas Appaloosa Club.
The horses in the 2-Year-Old Hunter
Under Saddle did an amazing job in the
heavy rain, with the eventual winner
being Im Really Somethin, ridden by
Mandy Jones. One of our new sponsors,
Roberts Cambridge Park donated a $100
voucher, which was on the Amateur
Senior Hunter Under Saddle won by
Chocolate Makes Me Hot shown by Kate
Austen.
This year saw more horses competing in
the Hack and Galloway classes. Again,
the heavens opened up and poured down
with rain, just as the Hacking classes
began. The winners were, Amateur
Rider – Carol Ahern, Hack 15-15.3 – RQH
Pawsitively Elegant, Hack over 15.3
– Chocolate Cruiser and the Galloway
Classes were won by Deep Blue Cee.
Sunday’s weather was fine, great
weather for the Trail classes. Winners of
these classes were treated to
sponsorship products from Roberts
Devonport, Roberts Cambridge Park,
Rural Solutions, NRG and Di Johnson.
The Yearling Trail was won by
