AQHA AMATEUR DIVISION
HELLO FELLOW AMATEURS
The AQHA 2023 AGM and Awards Night held in Sydney was spectacular , brilliant organisation and a fun atmosphere throughout the night . It was wonderful to see the dance floor used by the attendees , and who would have thought our AQHA office staff were so proficient at dancing .
entry pack . More clinics . Coaching shows , where the judge calls out incorrect movement and coaches riders in a show environment . ( Jan Miller used to do this often at club shows ).
Congratulations to all our award winners and inductees into our ‘ Hall of Fame ,’ well deserved . A summary of the data from the Amateur Division Survey was presented to the Directors of the AQHA at the AGM .
Thank you to those Amateurs that attended the Amateur Division AGM Zoom meeting , it was great to hear your ideas and suggestions for the new committee to plan for our future . At this stage , I would like to thank our past committee and introduce the 2023-2024 Amateur Division Committee .

The Amateur Division Survey data indicated that our members would like to attend more educational clinics , more amateur profiles in the magazine and encourage and promote new entrants into the industry . All data has been sent to the AQHA board for their consideration . This survey allows every Amateur to have a voice and communicate their thoughts to our volunteer Directors , sharing the positive initiatives being implemented already and the areas that may need to be reviewed in our industry .
Here are a few of the comments from the survey : Yes more clinics on the basics . Like how to prepare a horse for halter or how to ride ranch or how to ride the unusual canter . And these should be regional . Not always bigger areas . It ' s intimidating when we try something new and the judges are highly critical .
Teams challenge nominations to be included in each state show
Looking forward to seeing every Amateur out riding , competing , and enjoying their special time with the perfect horse – the Quarter Horse .
Remember , riding is about the journey , not just the destination .
Cheers Leonie Gorski ( Amateur Division President )
