The 2026 NCHA Legacy Select Cutting Bloodstock Sale will long be remembered for rewriting the Australian record books. When the hammer fell at an astonishing $ 150,000 the striking filly Hotnightinvegas Q-106326 became the highest-priced yearling ever sold at auction in Australia, securing her place in history and signalling the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Caballo Performance Horses Pty Ltd.
For new owner Riley Gordon, however, the record breaking purchase represented far more than a headline. It was the culmination of years of planning, careful breeding research and a clear vision for the future of his cutting horse program.
" We have been working with Jamie and Ella over several years and our objective was to secure a fully imported bloodline by Stevie Rey Von," Riley explained. " After viewing Hotnightinvegas Q-106326, the first filly ever offered to the market out of Hot Yoga, her pedigree was the standout. I knew this filly was the right decision and would set the benchmark for our breeding program."
While her impressive price captured the industry ' s attention, Riley ' s decision was founded on much more than the sale ring excitement. The filly ' s elite pedigree, combining one of the world ' s most influential cutting sires with the outstanding mare Hot Yoga, offered a rare opportunity that simply couldn ' t be overlooked.
" Her pedigree, tightly held genetics and soundness had everything to do with our decision on purchasing her," he said.
MORE THAN JUST A PEDIGREE
Riley ' s confidence in Hotnightinvegas Q-106326 was reinforced long before auction day. Together with respected trainers Jamie and Ella Seccombe, he inspected the filly several weeks before the sale and ensured every aspect of her development was thoroughly assessed.
" We had the chance to view her with Jamie and Ella and have her vet checked a few weeks prior to the sale," Riley said. " She vetted extremely well and had the good bone structure we particularly liked as a future broodmare prospect."
Just as importantly, it was her temperament that impressed everyone involved.
" It ' s a big ordeal for yearlings to leave home for the first time, travel, stable and be handled constantly throughout a sale. We were impressed by how mentally mature she was through the entire experience and that she never became overwhelmed."
That composure, combined with her physical attributes and exceptional bloodlines, confirmed Riley ' s belief that she possessed all the ingredients to become something very special.
BUILDING A CUTTING HORSE LEGACY
Although Hotnightinvegas Q-106326 represents Riley ' s first Futurity prospect purchased specifically with this campaign in mind, his involvement in breeding quality horses extends well beyond the cutting industry.
" I ' ve been involved in breeding horses for many years across other disciplines," he explained. " I was introduced to the cutting world about four years ago by Jamie and Ella, and since then I ' ve owned some amazing horses to ride and compete on. For me, this is an exciting step for Caballo Performance Horses."
His motivation is simple to continually raise the standard of horses produced within the operation.
