Aptavani-8
He has to become beyond duality (dwandvatita). He has
to rise above these dualities of profit-loss, happiness-unhappiness;
he should not be affected by them at all.
So whom can you call non-dualistic (adwaita)? It is the
one who has become dwandvatita; the one who is beyond
duality. Then nothing like advantage or disadvantage would ever
touch him. To him, it is the same, whether someone picks his
pocket, or showers him with flowers. Whether someone yells
abuse at him or slaps him, it is all the same to him. Then it is
called non-dualism (adwaita).
What Compassion Towards Understanding
the Truth!
So you want to understand non-dualism, do you not? If
you want the exact understanding, then understand it methodically.
Do not compromise your stillness (sthirata). By methodical I
mean that whatever ‘we’ say, holds true for the past, the present
and the future. No changes can be made to it. ‘We’ are telling
you the ultimate thing, through which people will attain the real
truth.
The entire issue of non-dualism (adwaita) has infiltrated
everything! So it needs to be said that, ‘anyone wanting to
understand adwaita, should come here to Dada. Why are you
holding on to the wrong thing?’ And if ever someone comes
along to oppose me, then it will not matter to me. It would not
matter to me even if they swore at me. I would give him a meal.
And after calming him down, I would make him understand
what I am saying. Even when he swears at me I am able to
sleep; whereas if I were to swear at him, he would not be able
to sleep. So I could not hurt him and besides, I will be able to
sleep! So you will have to sort it out, will you not? How long
can this go on? I do not want to do anything in it. I am an
instrumental being (nimit), and I have received this directive
(aadesh).
