Broadband impact on the US Today
Today, our government has made a stand on technology and education. The deliberate focus on high-speed networks has created significant developments in education. Vocational Training Centers, Universities and Community Colleges are now offering more programs, targeting areas of employment and professional development courses that are specific to each community. Corporations and business leaders are partnering with local municipalities and universities to build infrastructure conducive to advanced learning through high speed networks. The domino affect is also felt in the economics of small rural areas, whereas strategic partnerships could result in highly deprived communities receiving fiber optic networks as a byproduct of the educational commitment from the federal government. For instance, a small community with high unemployment will gain from a large corporation moving in to the market. The infrastructure would improve the surrounding communities and offer municipalities and community colleges access to higher speed networks that will ultimately create competitive programs that serve all workforce professionals. This domino effect would actually increase the job obtainment, improve K-12 academic progress and create a more attractive community for more corporate leaders to consider.
The direct connection with broadband, the community and corporations can be found through e-learning programs. These programs are diverse, instructor lead online courses that target communities and assist professionals with obtaining the proper education to become competitive in the corporate market. This can be done by obtaining stackable and mobile certifications in a high demand career field. The United States government is continuously feeling the pressure of not doing enough to create or stimulate the economy. Traditional methods of vocational or workforce learning have kept our great nation behind other thriving nations. Today, the country who focuses on infrastructure will improve its technology, manufactures technical equipment and create new entrepreneurs with innovative ideas while improving our educational system. To compete in a global workspace, we “MUST” innovate, enable our children to learn at a higher rate, improve our infrastructure and entice our stakeholders to continue to support our broadband efforts. $7.2T was just a drop in the bucket in comparison to what is needed to keep Americans competitive. We are slowly understanding the importance but there is a lot of work that needs to be done. It is the fiduciary responsibility of our policymakers to continue to focus on infrastructure improvements and pass more bills that stimulate our economy through the utilization of broadband technologies across America.
