2013 FAAPI Conference
So the 2013 FAAPI Conference has come and gone, and has certainly made a lasting
contribution to the tradition of annual academic events organised by FAAPI affiliates.
This Conference, organised by APIBA, was truly revolutionary in a number of ways:
it incorporated presentations in both English and Spanish
it offered some new formats, such as “Good
Practice Stories” and “Meet and Greet”
it held Pre Conference Events co-organised with
Foreign Language Units of the Ministries of
Education of the Province and City of Buenos Aires,
which consisted of several in-service training
sessions offered free of charge to 1600 teachers
of English of state-run Primary and/or Secondary
schools in APIBA’s jurisdiction
it set up a Virtual Platform which brought the Conference to teachers who were
unable to attend in person and offered delegates the chance to watch or re-watch some
of the Keynote presentations and Panels
It was also traditional in offering an extensive programme of activities, the chance to
listen to prestigious academic figures, and a forum for colleagues from all over the
country who are willing to share their research and experiences.
With a turnout of about 1200 teachers, teacher trainers, trainees, publishers and school
managers from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia and
Mexico organisation was a real challenge. Yet APIBA managed to pull it off with efficiency,
warmth and impeccable timing from beginning to end. The splendid venue chosen
proved a matching backdrop for the three full days of professional growth.
