WBU WORLD CHAMPION
The New WBU Lightweight World Champion
May 5th Tyrellstown, Carlton Hotel, Dublin, was the date and place when Stephen "The
Rock" Ormond became a World Champion and in devastating fashion.
With a full hall and an electric atmosphere, Laszlo
Robert Balogh from Hungary, stepped into the
lion's den to try and win a World Title. Dublin's very
own Stephen Ormond entered the ring with the
home crowd well behind him, you could see by the
steel look of determination in
Ormond's eyes that nothing or no one was going to
beat him on the night. Balogh age 24 and with over
30 professional fights,
winning the majority of them, was on paper a
worthy opponent.
Balogh came out in the first with some nice sleek
boxing, Ormond, with his all action style, hands
held high with plenty of bobbing and weaving, was
looking to push Balogh onto the ropes to unleash
some very powerful shots, but Balogh, for the
majority of the first
round stayed away
with some nice
boxing.
The
Irishman
quickly
acknowledged what
fight Balogh had in
mind and stepped
up the pace
towards the end of
the round. Ormond
walked
Balogh
down
onto
the
ropes and landed
some heavy shots.
In the second round, Ormond came out and picked
up were he left off, putting Balogh under severe
pressure, landing particularly well to the body.
Balogh was hurt and tried to box and move but
Ormond knew he was hurt and stepped in with
some good shots dropping Balogh with a sweet left
hook to the body.
Balogh beat the count and was up on his toes
moving left and right trying to stay away but
Stephen Ormond had other ideas, stepping in with
some very powerful shots and dropping Balogh
again with another well placed body shot. Laszlo
Robert Balogh showed great character and
courage to get up and to beat the count for a
second time, but Ormond could see Balogh was
ready to be taken out, so he obliged by catching
him with a fluster of
punches landing with a
powerful body shot,
down Balogh went for
the third and final time,
and Stephen "The
Rock" Ormond
became the new WBU
World Champion and
well deserved it is too!
We here at KO Monthly
would like to take this
opportunity to
Congratulate Stephen
on his World Title win.
