Jonathan Pitts- Wiley is the North Providence-based portrait and documentary photographer behind the“ On the Night Shift” photo essay. For this assignment, he says the hours were increasingly late( or impossibly early), but the memories were plentiful. Pitts-Wiley crisscrossed the state to observe milk truck distribution and squad car patrolling, as well as bakery prep work and the unloading of fresh catch at snow-covered docks.“ It was such a tremendous honor to both work with the creative minds behind Rhode Island Monthly and get a glimpse into the working lives of oft-overlooked yet truly devoted Rhode Islanders.”
Contributing writer Tanya Edwards covered the legendary bartender Dale DeGroff, who is based in Westerly.“ King Cocktail” describes how the watering hole, The Café, has elevated the coastal town’ s mixology scene.“ Interviewing Dale is akin to walking into an enormous library of cocktail and spirits knowledge and history,” Edwards says.“ He has a lifetime of stories, and he loves to share.” Edwards covers all of New England with bylines at The Boston Globe, Yankee, BBC Travel, Eater, CNN and more.
Contributing photographer Angel Tucker shot all the food and drink content for“ Cocktail Culture” as well as for the Dining Review on Ten Prime Seafood. She was excited to photograph Dale DeGroff and have him sign a copy of his book, The Craft of the Cocktail, for her.“ I had been a fan of him for years and I was super excited to meet him,” she says.“ I was kind of fangirling when he signed his book for me.”
