BAHS Indoor Track Season Wrap-Up
The Bellefonte Indoor Track and Field team completed their season in February at Penn State. As the program continues to grow and thrive, so do overall team performances. Over the last several months, the BAHS student-athletes competed in a number of meets and excelled by breaking several indoor school records. There were a total of twelve indoor records broken during the season, six for the girls’ and six for the boys.
For the boys’ team, sophomore Jonathan Gasper, set three individual indoor school records and was a part of one relay indoor school record. Jonathan set indoor records in the 3000m, 3200m, and Two Mile Races. His best race of the season was his last, in which he shattered the previous school record in the 3000m race by over 16 seconds. The previous record was set by Chase Ebeling in 2023. Jonathan narrowly missed the sub nine-minute mark with a new personal record of 9:00.19. In the 3200m and Two-Mile races, Jonathan set new school records with times of 9:54.23 and 9:50.97, respectively.
At Lehigh University in January, Jonathan joined teammates, junior Maverick Muchmore, junior Calvin Lovrak, and freshman Carson Fritchman in the Distance Medley Relay( DMR: 1200m-400m-800m-1600m) to set a new indoor school record with a time of 11:27.57. Entering the event, the boys were ranked 11th. They finished the race, not only with a school record but also with a 5th place finish in the event, exceeding their seed!
Finally, the boys’ 4x400m relay team set a new indoor record in January, only for them to reset it at their last indoor meet in February. The first time the 4x400m relay record was broken, the team consisted of Calvin Lovrak, junior Landyn Langille, Carson Fritchman, and freshman Jack Tyson. In February, when the record was reset, the team consisted of freshman Elliott Donmoyer, Landyn Langille, Calvin Lovrak, and Jack Tyson. The new indoor school record time is 3:40.62.
The ability to interchange athletes in relays is what helps build the program and continue the success that has been set before them. The foundation is laid for what looks to be a successful outdoor track and field season at Bellefonte.
