to continue his research on economics and economic issues. Even in his work on social issues, his efforts were inherently connected to economic considerations.
When he advocated for women to become entrepreneurs, he also emphasized government support to make Dalits entrepreneurs. He believed that economic upliftment was essential for social and political participation. Dr. Ambedkar conducted research on significant issues such as the Indian currency( rupee), inflation and exchange rates, national income of India, the development of provincial finance in British India, ancient Indian commerce, administration and finance of the East India Company, the issue of landless laborers, and the problems of Indian agriculture. He not only researched these topics but also provided logical and practical solutions to the problems associated with them.
At the beginning of the 20th century, nearly all prominent economists across the world recognized Dr. Ambedkar ' s understanding of economics and his contributions. Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen recently said,“ Dr. Ambedkar is my father in economics.” In 1913, Dr. Ambedkar graduated in economics from Elphinstone College in Bombay. Recognizing his brilliance, the Maharaja of Baroda provided him with a scholarship for further studies abroad. As a result, in 1915, he completed his Master’ s in Economics from Columbia University and earned his PhD in 1917. His MA thesis was on " Ancient Indian Commerce," reflecting his understanding of ancient Indian commerce. In this thesis, he discussed the problems of ancient Indian commerce and proposed possible effective solutions.
