Revenue reaches a historic high for golf club

Golf course operations
While audited financial results for our fiscal year April 2023-March 2024 won ’ t be available at the time this article goes to
BRAY press , the Charbonneau Golf
Club ( CGC ) will have completed its most successful year ever . For the first time in its history greens fees alone ( includes annual membership revenue and daily fees ) will exceed $ 1 million . Overall revenue will exceed $ 2.5 million , another historic high . We will log approximately 60,000 rounds of golf , making us one of the busiest golf courses in the Portland metro area . We paid back all the money taken out of reserves for the Market Café project , added and paid for a new permanent structure over the patio outside our pro shop and paid back 80 % of the money taken out of reserves for the $ 300,000 pump project incurred by our subsidiary water company . We , along with CCC , remodeled the exterior of our pro shop and restaurant , adding new windows , doors and a new roof over the restaurant portion of the building . With help from our sole shareholder , the Charbonneau Country Club ( CCC ), we were able to be included on a favorable loan for this exterior remodel of our facility . Most importantly , we will be profitable and self-sustaining . No homeowner ’ s association dues go to the CGC . Our course rating with customers is also at an all-time high . We have superior greens and the increased sanding program on our fairways has promoted better turf conditions and firmed up the golf course , allowing riding golf carts on the course itself during the winter on most days .
As we enter the new fiscal year , we plan to upgrade all the drainage on the Green course , which is our most played nine holes . Additionally , we will re-do all the sand traps on the Green course , adding improved drainage and better sand . Some of our tees will be expanded in size to improve their condition despite the high number of rounds played . All of these improvements will give golfers a better playing experience as we continue towards our goal of being
the best value golf course in the Portland metro area .
Board of Directors
The new fiscal year will also see one change on our board of directors , as Kathie Barton leaves our board and Bill Stout joins in her place .
Kathie Barton is one of the longest serving board members in CGC history . She was elected board secretary in 2016 and also served as a trustee for the shareholder trust that resulted from our merger with CCC in 2020 . Kathie has served as president and then later co- president of the Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association in 2008 and 2014 respectively . Additionally , she has served on various committees for both CGC and CWGA . Her love of the golf course and the Charbonneau community is readily apparent when you are around Kathie . Her presence on our board will be deeply missed . Thank you , Kathie , for your enumerable contributions to CGC .
We do feel very fortunate to have Bill Stout joining our board . Bill is well known in the Charbonneau community and an avid golfer and supporter of our golf course . Typically , Bill plays in excess of 200 rounds of golf at CGC in a given year , giving him a great perspective on the pluses and minuses of our three courses . Bill also has strong volunteer board experience as he is the president of his HOA board , Charbonneau Village Condominiums , and serves as a board member on the Charbonneau Men ’ s Club . Bill ’ s term on the board will run for three years , April 2024-March 2027 , in accordance with the term limits in our bylaws . Any board member serving their first three-year term is eligible for election to another three-year term after which they must be off the board for at least one year before being again eligible . We value both board experience and the spirit of rotation , to bring in fresh perspectives and greater participation .
The Charbonneau Water Company
On March 1 , CGC general manager Chris Bensel conducted a meeting with presidents and landscape chairmen of the various HOAs in Charbonneau that are customers of the Charbonneau Water Company for their HOA landscape irrigation non-potable water . The Charbonneau Water Company is a subsidiary business under the Charbonneau Golf Club , and is regulated by the Oregon Public Utility
