“ Shooting this story [“ Best Brunches ”] was a dream job for someone who not only spends most of her time shooting food and drink , but who also loves to brunch as much as possible ,” says contributing photographer Angel Tucker . She maintains a photography studio in Warren but spends most of her time on location , shooting in the kitchens and dining rooms of New England ’ s chefs and in the gardens and boats of the working people who supply the ingredients on their menus .
Contributing writer and former Rhode Island Monthly copy editor Grace Kelly is a sucker for a good bloody mary , and she says the one at Hunky Dory in Warren , with its crunchy , lacto-fermented dilly beans and hit of horseradish , was one of the best she ’ s ever had [“ Best Brunches ”]. She also says the loaded chilaquiles from the Shanty in Warwick were a pretty darn good way to start the day . Kelly currently works at America ’ s Test Kitchen , where she gives cooking products her stamp of approval .
As a native New Englander , writer Clayton Trutor [“ Ocean State Greats ”] has always been interested in guys from the region who made it to the big leagues . “ Anyone from New England who makes Major League Baseball beats the odds ,” he says . “ New England baseball players play a much shorter season than their peers in states like Florida , Texas and California . The number of Rhode Islanders who have beaten the odds is remarkable .”
