THE HAMMONTONIAN | APRIL 2022 | P . 3

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to the spring edition of The Hammontonian . The weather is warmer , the flowers are coming into bloom and the sounds of sneezing is all around . OK , maybe that is not as melodic as the sound of whipporwhill or a robin , but it is pretty accurate for this time of year . We are also in the beginning of baseball season . I love the sound of the crack of the bat , the smell of freshly-mown grass and the sight of players in position on a baseball field . I have been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember . My beloved professional team is the New York Mets thanks to my mother , but I have a soft spot for Hammonton Little League players . Our league was the first league to win the Little League World Series from outside of Pennsylvania . Our team began playing in 1947 and generations of kids have played on the same field for 75 years .
I also watched a high school softball game earlier this month . There is nothing like watching a team work together for a win . It is inspiring . In this edition , we take a look at the Hammonton Little League , spend a little time at the opera , plan a vacation , prepare for Cinco de Mayo , cook with a queen , celebrate the many Joe Berenatos , take a Buick for a test drive and more . Our writers give all the articles a Hammonton spin since we love Hammonton more than any other town . As always we welcome your input . Please let me know how we are doing . You can send me an email at grullo @ hammontongazette . com or drop a note to P . O . Box 1228 , Hammonton , NJ 08037 or you can give me a call at ( 609 ) 704-1940 . Happy spring ! Enjoy the warmer weather and the return of baseball . — Gina Rullo , Editor-in-Chief
