Generations of Joe Berenatos continue legacy

“ I named my son Joe because I wanted him to carry on the family name ... To me , the family name is the legacy . I carry the name with pride , as does my father and as his father did . My son will , too ,” he said .
“ Joey ” Berenato said that having an abundance of Joe Berenatos traveling together can present its own set of challenges .
“ We learned the hard way — since the kids were little — that I take my daughter through security and boarding airplanes , and my wife takes my son . Let ’ s just say that if the airplane ticket doesn ’ t clearly show the “ III ” after my son ’ s name , they think one Joe Berenato has two seats .
“ Pepe ” Berenato said that school-age years can also be difficult , noting that his son

is in the same grade as Joseph D . Berenato , III .
“ I didn ’ t want to name him Joe Berenato ; there would have been two Joe Berenatos in his grade , so we named him Jack . It ’ s not John , it ’ s Jack . It ’ s another strong name ,” he said .
“ Joe Casino ” Berenato said that those named Joe Berenato are part of the very fabric of the town itself .
“ I know I ’ m part of Hammonton ; my grandfather was one of the originators . We ’ re all a part of Hammonton ,” he said .
For that reason , “ Joe Boy ” Berenato , who was born on March 5 , 1966 — the 100th anniversary of Hammonton ’ s incorporation — hopes that future Berenato generations will continue to name their sons “ Joe .”
“ It should be a tradition .

We ’ ve got to have a Joe . I would love to have a grandson named Joe , but I ’ m not in control of that — so we ’ ll see what happens ,” he said .
Despite the preponderance of Joe Berenatos , and despite the confusions that come as a result , “ Joe Casino ” noted that the positives far outweigh any negatives .
“ I ’ m proud to be a Joe Berenato . I wouldn ’ t want any other name ,” he said .
