PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE Celebrating Our Judiciary

Julia Wyda 2021-22 PBCBA President
The Palm Beach County Bar Association (“ PBCBA ”) is returning to its tradition of having a live yearly reception to honor our judiciary . We welcome all of our members to join us on April 26 , 2022 at 5:30 p . m . for our annual Judicial Reception at the Kravis Center .
At this year ’ s reception , we will celebrate not only our current judges , but also those judges who have retired or resigned since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic . To honor these judges , we spotlight them briefly to express the PBCBA ’ s appreciation for their service .
Judge Jessica Ticktin resigned in January 2021 . She was known during her time on the bench for being thorough , well versed in the law , pleasant in demeanor , kind in her approach , meticulous in her writing , and always willing to volunteer for the PBCBA to help educate our members and give back to the community . During her time on the bench , she received the prestigious Jurist of the Year award from the Florida Chapter of the American
Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers during a deeply moving ceremony in which Judge Ticktin received a standing ovation after her heartfelt remarks .
Judge Krista Marx retired in July 2021 . She is a former president of the PBCBA ’ s Young Lawyers Section and served on the PBCBA ’ s Board of Directors for one year before being elected to the bench in 1999 . She served as Chief Judge of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit from 2017- 2021 . She was tireless in her efforts during the pandemic to keep our members updated and the courts moving . We all looked on proudly as she pushed to be ahead of the curve technologically , helping us to be one of the first circuits in the state to return to jury trials .
Judge Sandra Bosso- Pardo retired in September 2021 . She was appointed by Governor Bush to the county bench in 2004 . She put the mostly pro se litigants who came before her at ease with her patience and warm , welcoming demeanor . Her closest friends describe her as incredibly loyal and “ the glue that keeps us all together .” She greatly enjoyed serving as a county court judge and considered her service to be the highlight of her legal career .
Judge Mark Eissey retired in January 2022 . Anyone who had the privilege to practice before him was sure to leave the courtroom knowing they were given an opportunity to be heard , they were treated respectfully and fairly , and justice was served . PBCBA Member Cyrus Toufanian recalls that he had a client who was so impacted by Judge Eissey ’ s courtroom discussions that he turned his life around and is now in the process of becoming a lawyer . Judge Eissey ’ s legacy will remain and his laughter and wonderful demeanor will never be forgotten . We want to thank him and his family for his years of service to our community .
Judge Joseph Marx retired in January 2022 . He was appointed by Governor Bush to the county bench in 2003 and elevated to the circuit bench by Governor Crist in 2009 . In 2019 , Judge Marx was named Jurist of the Year by the PBCBA ’ s North County Section . He served Palm Beach County admirably in many high-profile cases during his time on the criminal bench . We wish him safe travels as he embarks on many international journeys ahead .
Judge Leonard Hanser retired in February 2022 . After a successful career in private practice , Judge Hanser served the residents of Palm Beach County for 16 years as a magistrate and 12 years as a county court judge . He was known by our members as an avid runner , history buff , skilled pianist , and devoted father .
We look forward to further honoring these judges , along with all of our currently sitting judges , at the Judicial Reception on April 26 . I hope to see you there !
