Board Member of the Month
Hello to all ASCE members and subscribers of the ASCE Monthly newsletter . My name Benjamin Brock and I am the Younger Members Chairmen for 2022 . I have been a part of ASCE since I was a student at the University of New Hampshire where I served as vice president for two years . I am excited to continue being a part of ASCE as the Younger Members Chairman .
A bit about me , I currently live in Dover , New Hampshire with two roommates and a dog named Elly . I was born in Georgetown , MA where I attended Georgetown High School . Through high school I took some pre-engineering classes and such as CAD design and a few shop classes where I was first exposed to the idea of engineering .
After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering , I moved to downtown Portsmouth New Hampshire where I worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard . Here I worked as a structural engineer performing inspections and designing repairs for the structural framing , hull , and tanks in both the Los Angeles class and Virginia class submarines . While I enjoyed the work here , I discovered that working in the government was not for me . That and the commute from downtown Portsmouth really got to me . In 2018 I moved to my current position as a Project Manager at Collins Engineers . Here I focus primarily on anything related to waterfront engineering , ranging from commercial pier and wharf design to above and underwater bridge inspections . I have gone to the Association of Diving Contractors International dive school and received my commercial dive certification which has given me the opportunity to inspect a broad range of structures all over the country . Shameless plug incoming , if you need any waterfront design or inspection work performed , please don ’ t hesitate to reach out .
In my spare time I enjoy skiing , hiking , mountain biking , camping , and working out . Any day I get to spend outside is a good day in my book . I am also a frequent visitor of the white mountains . I enjoy traveling and seeing different parts of the US as well and am looking forward to my first international trip to France this summer .
This upcoming year I look forward to bringing back the New Hampshire ASCE Younger Members group , specifically the monthly Happy Hour . After the past two years of Covid , I know I am looking forward to more in person networking events . Anyone interested in becoming more involved in ASCE please join us !
