Charbonneau Men ’ s Club By DON MASON

Consider vying for the Charbonneau Cup |
Spring is here and the Men ’ s Club golf season has officially begun !
In March , the board welcomed 14 new members to the Men ’ s Club with a light
MASON breakfast followed by golf . The Men ’ s Club roster has been updated on our website ( mc . golfcharbonneau . com ) to reflect all of the current active members .
The season-long competition for
|
Charbonneau Cup points began on Saturday , March 26 . ( see additional information about the Charbonneau Cup later in this article ).
April marks the beginning of our club ’ s traditional golf season . Our Spring Season “ Kick-Off ” Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday , April 2 . There is no charge to members for this breakfast as it is included as part of your Men ’ s Club membership dues . Sign-ups for this event will be handled by Golf Genius with separate signs-ups for breakfast and the four-man golf scramble that follows .
The reporting of scores for handicap purposes began on March 1 after our normal October through February winter hiatus . Just a reminder , on regular Men ’ s Club 18-hole play Wednesdays and Saturdays , your scores are automatically reported via Golf Genius to our Scoring Committee that posts these scores , which are then included in your handicap . Other rounds played during the week and ninehole
|
scores need to be reported via the USGA app in order to get those included in your handicap . The USGA app works on cell phones and iPad-type devices .
Rules and handicapping seminar
Jim Gibbons will be presenting a Rules and Handicapping Seminar on Thursday , April 7 at 5 p . m . in the CCC Dining Room . The event is open to members of all three Charbonneau golf clubs . Jim has worked as a rule ’ s official at many local , state , regional and national events including more than a dozen US Women ’ s and US Senior Men ’ s Opens .
Charbonneau Cup
The recent Men ’ s Club survey appeared to show a lack of interest / understanding of the “ Charbonneau Cup .” The Charbonneau Cup is a season-long competition for points which are awarded for each Men ’ s Club game . Five “ participation points ” are awarded to everyone who plays in an event .
|
Additional points are awarded for those who win money either as an individual or team for each event .
Around October 1 , the top 20 cumulativepoint getters for the year win prizes and are invited to play in the Charbonneau Cup Tournament event . The tournament has another prize pool for top-10 finishers . The winner of this final tournament is the winner of the Charbonneau Cup ( i . e anyone playing in this tournament has a chance to win the cup ).
Rule of the month
This year the Men ’ s Club will host the following “ major ” golf tournaments : Two Member / Member events , Spring and Fall Handicap tournaments , Match Play and the Club Championship . In order for a member to play in a major golf tournament event , he must have posted TEN 18-hole rounds at our Charbonneau Golf Course in the past 12 months ( See the Tournament Play Policy of the Men ’ s Club on the website ).

Volunteer for the Red Cross and learn First Aid Have you been wanting to volunteer but are afraid it might be too much of a commitment ? Or , would you like to volunteer and do some traveling ? Either way , we may have the opportunity for you . Charbonneau and the American Red Cross need volunteers living in the area .
Charbonneau Country Club is an official Red Cross shelter that could be used in the event of a disaster . When a
|
fire or weather event temporarily displaces nearby residents , the Red Cross provides not just shelter , but a wide array of services to get them back on their feet . 90 % of Red Cross staff are volunteers and you can become a part of the team .
You can train and be involved to the extent you choose , which may include only local disasters , disasters across the United States , or to help with installation of free fire alarms in local homes , checking donors in at blood drives or other opportunities .
Charbonneau leaders are particularly interested in Charbonneau residents becoming shelter volunteers because , when the “ Big One ” hits , out-of-area volunteers may not be able to reach Charbonneau . Trained and experienced
|
local residents may be able to manage the Charbonneau Country Club as a shelter .
The process of becoming a Red Cross volunteer begins with an online application . Depending on what type of volunteering you would like to do , most of the free training can be done online .
How to Get Started ?
Visit www . redcross . org / volunteer / become-a-volunteer . html # step1 .
If you have any questions about the volunteer process , the commitment , or what it ’ s like to be a Red Cross volunteer , Charbonneau has residents who are active volunteers . If you have any other questions , please call or email Louvonne residents listed here , or use the email address to contact the Red Cross directly .

First Aid classes
The Red Cross has First Aid and CPR classes online for anyone to take . If you are a registered volunteer the classes are free , but cost $ 35 for nonvolunteers . To become certified , you can take the class online , and within 90 days you must attend an on-site certification . We plan to hold on-site classes at the Charbonneau clubhouse in the future . For more information and to register for classes through the Red Cross , visit https :// www . redcross . org / take-a-class .
